Kyber: a new approach for real-time video and controls streaming based on Quic
Description
While we have good solutions for low-latency streaming through CDN (Dash, LL-HLS) and for people to people communication (WebRTC), there are not many good open source options for controlling machines, aka video streaming + input streaming multiplexed.
Kyber is an open source project comprising low-latency encoder, decoder and protocol stack, based on Quic, to address this. It is flexible, and can be used for Remote Desktop, Cloud Gaming, Drone and Robots control or Application streaming. And a contrario from existing projects, this is cross-platform, for both client and server sides. We’ve achieved 20/25ms glass-to-glass latency, we’ve used H.264/HEVC/VP9/AV1 for streaming, and we’ve been porting the software on Windows/Linux/macOS for the server and Windows/Linux/macOS/iOS/Android. The project is open source and is based on FFmpeg and VLC. This talk was presented at Demuxed ’23, a conference for video nerds in San Francisco featuring amazing talks like this one.Conference
