It’s time to rebuild your player with web components
Description
In 2010 I started building Video.js because I was excited to use web technologies (not Flash) to make video player controls, but it was still hard to create a *native*-feeling experience. In 2020, web components are completing that story, allowing new video-related elements to become first-class citizens in the browser, shared between players, and compatible with any javascript framework by default.
Topics covered:
Custom elements as portable, extendable video controls
Extensions of the video tag
Easily embedding any existing web player with a custom element (instead of big clunky embed codes)
Other video related opportunities like playlist
Presented at Demuxed 2020.
