Description

Streaming technology stacks are a complex collection of different technologies. From CDNs to origins to packagers and encoders, to DRM and advertising systems, each of these technologies is a step within the end-to-end workflow of delivering streaming video to end users. But because they are provided by different companies, there is often little interoperability and that can create significant roadblocks to understanding and fixing root causes in viewer QoE. The SVTA Measurement/QoE group started the Distributed Tracing project to show that it would be possible to connect these data sets together in an automated fashion. The project was then picked up, on a path to standardization, by the CTA-WAVE group. In this webinar, members of the QoE/Measurement group will talk about the project, how they approached it, the current status, and what’s next.

Topics Covered

  • What’s the current state of end-to-end streaming workflow monitoring? What are the big challenges?
  • What is Distributed Tracing and how does it work? What are some examples?
  • The SVTA QoE/Measurement working group kicked off a project to explore Distributed Tracing. What was the impetus for exploring this concept? What were the results?
  • The CTA WAVE group picked up the SVTA work as a standardization project called Streaming Media Tracing. What’s the status of the project? What work still needs to be done?
  • What’s going to be required to get the industry on-board? What will streaming technology vendors, service providers (such as CDNs), player developers, etc. have to do to support it?
  • What does the future of streaming monitoring look like with Distributed Tracing?
