Description
On the surface, streaming seems rather simple: encode some content, package it for segmented delivery, put it on a server, and then request it from a player. But actually delivering a stable, resilient, consistent streaming experience is far from that simple. Building an OTT platform requires the combination of dozens of different interoperable technologies, spread out over private networks and public cloud providers, all scalable and secure. In this webinar, we will explore the technology stack that makes up a typical OTT service and some best practices to help assure a great viewer experience.
This webinar will be moderated by Jason Thibeault, Executive Director of the Streaming Video Alliance.
Topics Covered
- How can we categorize the technologies within the streaming video stack? What are the major and minor groups?
- How is the stack evolving? What are some of the big trends driving the changes?
- Where in the stack do the technologies need to improve the most?
- How will “the edge” impact the technology stack in the coming years? Will a lot of the components migrate to serverless functions or something similar?
- Without standards to govern the technology components, how can OTT operators ensure interoperability?
- As the stack evolves into more software-based services, what are the challenges to enabling a programmatic workflow?
- What role does data play within the technology stack? How are operators using the data to make more intelligent and effective workflows?
- Are there any areas of innovation within the player environment that can improve the user experience?
- Will new programming frameworks, like reactive and EDA, change the way components within the stack are built?
