Pushing video delivery to the edge of the operator network is critical in meeting surging consumer demand for streaming content. Doing so can improve critical streaming metrics including startup-time, buffer ratio, and bitrate switching which ultimately results in improved quality of experience. ISP edge delivery, therefore, can be an important part of the overall delivery infrastructure even when most publishers utilize multiple content delivery networks. Additionally, those network operators who are also content rights holders might employ external CDNs to handle off-net delivery for roaming subscribers.   Specifications such as the Streaming Video Alliance’s Open Caching can enable network operators to build their own edge-based caches that can federate with Open Caching compliant caches in other networks, allowing the service provider to collaborate directly with the publisher for content delivery. This can give the publisher not only improved insight into multi-network delivery, but also enable management of all content across those networks and caches from a single point of control.   In this webinar, panelists will talk about implementing and deploying edge caching solutions based on the Alliance’s Open Caching specifications, citing real-world examples such as BT’s recent announcement regarding deployment of a Cisco/Qwilt Open Caching solution, while also exploring some of the technical challenges of implementation.
