Description

Understanding the viewer’s streaming experience is critical to surviving in today’s highly competitive video landscape. Without a clear picture of what’s happening on the user’s screen, service providers can’t diagnose and solve issues before they turn into subscriber churn. But many online video distributors only have a partial picture. They might be receiving data about the client but have nothing about the server. Or, they could be gathering lots of network data but be unable to connect it to individual viewer sessions. In this webinar, we will explore some best practices for streaming video service providers to establish an end-to-end picture of their video experience, from the origin to the edge, and finally, to the player.

Topics Covered

  1. What does end-to-end monitoring mean? What’s being monitored? Are there things that can’t be monitored? Are the right things even being monitored (does rebuffer ratio even matter)?
  2. Does monitoring different components within the workflow matter if they don’t impact the Quality of Experience?
  3. What are the critical challenges to end-to-end monitoring? Are they technology-focused (such as being able to monitor third-party components) or are human-factors involved (such as being able to act on the data quickly)?
  4. What if a video distributor is monitoring 15 different components? Do they have 15 different visualization tools? How can operations combine data?
  5. What role does AI/ML play in the monitoring system?
  6. Is end-to-end monitoring only applicable to live? Does it even matter when the content is on-demand?
  7. Are there any agreed-upon KPIs for specific component measurements? Should there be?
  8. The Streaming Video Alliance Measurement/QoE Working Group is working on a best practices doc for end-to-end streaming. What does it cover? How will the industry be able to make use of this?
  9. With so many OTT platforms entering the market, and live content becoming increasingly popular, what does monitoring look like in the next 12 to 24 months? Are there new technologies or approaches coming to market?
  10. What is the one piece of advice you would give to a video distributor as they map out their monitoring strategy and implement their monitoring stack?
